Mr. Arif Cagdas AYDINOGLU works as a professor in Gebze Technical University (GTU) since 2017. His researches are about Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), European SDI (INSPIRE), geographic data models/ standards/ interoperability, National and Urban GIS. He manages GTU Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences as Institute Director.
He graduated from Department of Geomatics Engineering of Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) in 1999. During his PhD “Developing Geo-data Exchange Model for Turkey” completed in 2009, he worked about developing base geo-data models compatible to INSPIRE application schemas in UGent-Belgium for 1 year and in ITC-the Netherlands for 3 months, and in the Geo-database Management Center of TUDelft-the Netherlands for 8 months.
After appointed to Istanbul Technical University (ITU) as an assistant professor in 2009, under the responsibility of General Directorate of GIS of the MoEU, he completed projects about determining policies and geo-data specifications for Turkey National GIS (TUCBS) and Urban GIS infrastructure compliant with INSPIRE. He took part of building and managing Geographic Information Technology M.Sc./PhD. and worked as vice-director of GIS research center and Applied Science Institute.
After appointed to Gebze Technical University (ITU) as an associated professor in 2014, He worked as a part of INSPIRE project in the European Commission (EC) Joint Research Center (JRC) in Italy in 2015. In this post-doc and following INSPIRE capacity building project in Turkey as lead training expert and data expert, he focused on capacity building activities and developing training materials for practicing INSPIRE geo-data specifications in Turkey. Besides, he managed GIS projects supported by TUBITAK, metropolitan municipalities, and research funds. As training activity, he gives GIS and SDI courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
